IN MEMORY: Claire Ann Erkers

Claire Ann Erkers
June 14, 1949-June 17, 2020

Claire Ann Erkers went to her Father in heaven this day, June 17, 2020; she is with her husband of 39½ years. She was born on June 14, 1949 in Klamath Falls, OR to Charles and Mary (Lamay) Mullins, and died in Chewelah, WA at the age of 71.

Claire was a para educator in the Chewelah School District from 2005 to 2011, when she retired. She made many friends among the students, staff and parents. She also volunteered for the Valley Food Pantry for many years and made several good friends there. Perhaps the reason she made so many friends everywhere she went was because she was known to be a giving person. She made everyone she met feel comfortable and welcome in her presence; it didn’t matter if you were family or not. Claire was always drawn to those people that were alone. She never shied away from someone in need of company. Her great compassion and concern for others was evident in her persistence in sending out birthday cards and letters to family and friends.

Claire’s giving didn’t stop at letters and cards. Her willingness to give to others was displayed in her swiftness to jump in and lend a hand even when she wasn’t asked to help. In one situation, a close friend named Vicki had a daughter who needed to learn to drive. The problem was that Vicki didn’t know how to drive. Claire charged in to help and Vicki’s daughter got her license.

For all of her generosity and giving, there was one area that Claire didn’t give an inch. She was steadfast in her determination to support her Seattle Seahawks. She watched as many games as she could and had all of the apparel to do so.

Claire’s ashes will be scattered at the New Tacoma Cemetery Sprinkling Garden with her husband and other family members. No funeral or graveside ceremonies will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Valley Food Pantry or to your favorite charity.

Claire is survived by her son Ross Erkers, his fiancé Teresa Sawyer and his daughter Willow Erkers of Missouri; daughter Andrea DuCharme of Chewelah and her daughter Justine Doud of South Dakota and great-grandchild, Molley Ray Doud; Andrea’s sons Dillan and Tristan DuCharme and her brother Chuck Mullins of Tacoma, WA.
