Howard W. Pitts passed away peacefully May 3, 2016 at Providence Hospital with family by his side.
Howard was born in Livingston, Montana to Roy and Lillian Pitts, the eldest of four children. His family moved to Chewelah, WA in 1933. He attended school in Chewelah graduating from Jenkins High School in 1941. He attended WSU for one year before enlisting in the Navy. He served two years in the Pacific flying search missions on PBY’s earning him a Navy Air Medal.
After discharge from the service, he returned to WSU to finish his undergraduate schooling and renew his friendship with Chewelah friend Shirley Snook. They were married in 1947 and moved to Seattle where Howard attended the U of W School of Dentistry. In 1953, they settled in Marysville, WA where he practiced dentistry for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley, his daughter Diana Borrud (Tom), son Wesley Pitts (Elaine), grandchildren Andrea Pitts, Allison and Andrew Borrud, great grandson Kaden Castano and sister Judy Deegan (Marv).
Howard was an avid fisherman, the family spent many summer vacations fishing at Hi Hium Lake in British Columbia and many summer road trips exploring the back roads through Montana. He was an expert vegetable gardener and loved a good adventure novel. Most of all Howard loved his family and enjoyed seeing his grandchildren grow up.
A private celebration of life is planned for family members.
