(PRESS RELEASE/Northeast Washington Interagency IMT )
The Horns Mountain Fire located 12 miles northwest of Northport was started by lightning on August 11, 2018 and is now 5,583 acres. The NE Washington Interagency IMT Team 3 is managing the fire from Rock Cut Campground near the Laurier Canadian border crossing. The fire is 90% contained.
Yesterday’s activities: Mop up and repair work continued yesterday on all divisions of the fire. Repair work includes, among other tasks, covering the burms made during the fire fight and cleaning up downed trees. The recent rain and cooler temperatures have helped quiet down the fire.
Today’s planned activities: The mop up operations continue today, with the added job of beginning to pick up hose and equipment on the fire line. In areas that are adequately mopped up, patrol and repair work will begin in preparation of turning the fire area management back to the Forest Service Three Rangers District.
Weather: Today’s weather will be warmer with dry and breezy conditions ahead of an approaching cold front. The cold front will pass through the fire area Wednesday evening with shifting winds throughout the night.
