The Chewelah School District awarded Kevin Herda with the WASA Community Leadership award at West Valley High School on April 19.
Kevin Herda was the Bond Chairman for the Chewelah Citizens for Kids Committee that developed a campaign that inspired most voters to support a building plan for Chewelah Schools.
The past campaign had more than 200 volunteers and put in more than the 2,000 hours of work on the February bond election.
Although the building bond was short of the 60 percent approval needed, the district will continue the momentum of this past facility bond campaign this November.
In addition to being the bond committee chairman, Kevin has also worked as a member of the Chewelah Planning Commission for the past ten years, which has developed a comprehnsive plan for the city of Chewelah. He is a 1995 graduate of Jenkins High School and is the owner of Valley Drug Co. in Chewelah.
The WASA Community Leadership Award is awarded by the Washington Association of School Administrators and a local award is nominated by the district, and a regional award is awarded by the ESD.
