Helen Ann Murbach 1923-2016
Helen Ann Murbach, a long time resident of Valley, Washington, passed away on June 1, 2016 in Spokane, WA. Helen was born in Valley on September 21, 1923, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Salokar) Mally.
Helen was raised and attended school in Valley and graduated as salutatorian from Valley High School in 1940. Soon after graduation she began working at Kulzer’s General Store. While working at the store she met Marion Murbach and the two of them were married on June 4, 1946. After their marriage they relocated for a short time to Spokane then to Springdale and finally back to Valley where she lived the remainder of her life. With her experience working at the store she again worked part-time once her four children were all in school. Marion passed on December 14, 1994 and Helen continued living at their home.
Helen enjoyed spending time outside in her garden. She also had a great talent for embroidering. Throughout the years she spent countless hours watching her grandchildren play ball.
Helen was very active in the community for her entire life. Every year she played a major role in the St. Patrick’s Day dinner. She was a member of the PTA and also served on the election board for thirty years. For most of the years she lived in Valley she worked at the Valley Fair. One of the most important things in Helen’s life was her church. She was a very large part of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley where she held an office for most of her adult life. She was a member of the altar society for many years. She was very devoted to serving God and prayed the Rosary many times every day. Helen was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Murbach; sisters, Catherine Tomsha and Mary Goforth; brother, Albert Mally.
Helen is survived by her children, Kathleen Jalbert and husband, Steve of Spokane, WA, Dorothy Mohr and husband, John of Valley, WA, Stephen Murbach and wife, Kathy of Chewelah, WA, Michael Murbach and wife, Alice of Chewelah, WA; sixteen grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Murbach began with a Rosary Vigil at 7 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2016 and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, both at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Valley, WA. The graveside service followed the Mass at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Valley, WA.
