The pending negotiations for the “Fiscal Cliff” vote has been politicised by President Obama. The original “sequestration” legislation was passed earlier this year and it focused entirely on the federal budget, the debt ceiling, and budget reductions, etc. President Obama wants to add additional issues, like tax brackets for the wealthy, and additional stimulus package, and having Congress transfer the power of raisning the debt ceiling to the President, instead of in Congress, where it is granted by the Constitution.
Republicans will be criticised no matter what they do. If they give into the President’s demands, they will be criticised for not sticking to their values. If the republicans can’t get a new bill negotiated, they will be blamed for not compromising with the democrrats.
The point is, the sequestration bill was passed earlier this year and focused on the budget, tax extension, and the budget ceiling. President Obama has politicised this important matter by adding additional issues which have nothing to do with what was discussed and agreed upon earlier in the year.
The issue is “SPENDING.” We do not have the money to continue spending the way our government is spending. President Obama needs to show leadership and sit down with the republicans to get some type of new legislation passed. It’s his watch and he needs to show more than a little leadership to help the American people. If he chooses not to negotiate with the republicans, then it will be clear he does not care about the American people. He only cares about continuing to divide this country for his own personal reasons.
