Glenice Margaret (Ross) Britsch 1936-2019
GLENICE MARGARET (ROSS) BRITSCHGI, a life-long resident of Chewelah, Washington, passed away on March 21, 2019 in Washougal, Washington. Glenice was born on July 23, 1936 in Chewelah, Washington the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Quirk) Ross.
She was raised in Chewelah and attended the St. Mary’s Catholic School from elementary school through high school and then attended Eastern Washington University where she earned her teaching degree. She taught school full-time in Oroville, Washington for several years.
Glenice met John Britschgi in Chewelah and they were wed on June 24, 1961 at St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church. They made their home in Chewelah. Glenice continued to work as a substitute teacher and homemaker while raising their four children.
She was a devout Catholic and taught CCD classes for the St. Mary’s parish for many years. She loved to garden and had a large one where she grew an abundant amount of vegetables. She also loved flowers and always had beautiful flowers planted around her home. Flowers always brought a smile to her face.
Since 1998, Glenice and her husband John (deceased 2009) would spend winters in Palm Springs, California and the remainder of the year in Chewelah. In Palm Springs she regularly attended the Catholic Church and enjoyed swimming every day and visiting with other retirees wintering in Palm Springs from all over the United States, Canada and England. She made many friends and was known for her friendliness and smile. She was adventurous and would explore Palm Springs and its many opportunities for movies, museums and other cultural activities. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her cat, Callie, who she rescued as a feral kitten in Chewelah and who never seemed to leave her side.
Glenice is survived by one son, Richard Britschgi and his partner, Samuel Gomez, San Juan Capistrano, CA; three daughters Lynne Britschgi and her husband Mark Chandler, Escondido, CA, Sue Jarrell and her husband, Don Jarrell, Washougal, WA, Karen Britschgi and her husband, Eric Pester, Chehalis, WA; four grandchildren, Tyreen Jarrell and her fiancé Nathan Lockett, Tyler Jarrell and his girlfriend Joanne Tustison, Nicolas Pester and Joseph Pester; two great grandchildren, Braelyn Jarrell-Mera and Rhoenik Isakson; and several cousins.
A Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Chewelah, WA. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church in Chewelah. A graveside service will follow the Mass at the Chewelah Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Mary of the Rosary Catholic Church.
