Smith leads Cougars with 14 points…
The Chewelah girls were given a tall task in their bid to stay alive in the NEA District 7 2B tournament when they squared off with Northwest Christian, the second overall seed in the tournament. The Cougars were looking to hand the Crusaders another upset loss at districts, while simultaneously keeping their regional hopes alive, but they were unable to match the skill that propelled the Crusaders to a 9-1 record in league play and 19 wins overall on the season, coming away with a 49-22 loss to end the season.
The Cougars managed just 10 points total in the first half, a number matched by Northwest Christian after just one quarter on the way to a 30-10 halftime lead. The Chewelah defense stepped up their game in the second half, keeping things much closer and holding the Crusaders to only 19 points over that time. However, the Cougar offense couldn’t keep up with their defense, and the Crusaders rolled onto the win.
Chewelah got 14 points from Bailey Smith to lead the team. Jordan Rabe was the game’s leading scorer with 17 for the Crusaders. The loss finishes the season for Chewelah with a 12-12 overall record and 3-7 in league play.
