Hornets finish season 17-9…
Inchelium marched into their first round, loser-out matchup at the state 1B championships against Sunnyside Christian fresh off a convincing regional win and looking to keep that momentum going, but came away with a disappointing loss to the higher seeded Knights 62-41.
The Hornets started the game out strong, taking an early 16-14 lead after the first quarter. That’s when the offense went cold for the Hornets, as they finished the half shooting just under 27% on both three-point attempts and overall field goals. The Knights offense struggled as well, but managed to be just a bit better, hitting over 31% from three and 34% overall in the half on their way to taking a 28-22 halftime lead.
Inchelium looked to get hot in the second half, but continued to struggle on offense while Sunnyside Christian got hot. The Knights hit over 50% from the floor in the second half, and their defense held Inchelium to just one three-pointer on twelve attempts in the same timeframe to outscore the Hornets by 15 in the half and win the game by 21.
Meika Heath led the way for Inchelium with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while teammate Rylee Desautel also had 10 points. Cloey Simpson added 5 points and 5 steals in the loss.
The Knights were led by 17 points and 6 rebounds from Sydney Banks and Jenna Andringa added 11 points along with 11 rebounds. The loss finished the season for the Hornets with a 17-9 overall record, 10-5 in league play.
