Gilbert Peavey 1935-2016
Gilbert Kenneth Peavey passed away in Chewelah, Washington on the evening of October 5, 2016. He was born in San Diego, California on April 15, 1935, the son of Hollis and Pansy Peavey.
Gilbert was raised and attended school in Imperial Beach, California. He learned many life skills at a young age as he worked on the Egger farm driving tractor and doing various jobs. Later, he was a heavy equipment operator and then managed a sand plant. He was a very hard worker with too many talents to name. He built houses, was a mechanic and could figure out most anything.
Gilbert had a passion for horses and was a member of San Diego Cowboy Polo, South Bay Saddle Club, and Melody Riders. He and Ann loved riding and camping with their close friends. His favorite horse was a beautiful Palomino named King and his two favorite dogs were Lady and Tip. He was a true gentleman with a strong cowboy handshake. He had a quick whit and was a teaser despite his many hardships. Doctors called Gilbert the “Miracle Man” as they never expected him to overcome so many odds.
He was a fighter until the end and is survived by his wife Ann, who was his loving caregiver for his 12 year battle with cancer. He is also survived by his sisters Evelyn and Helen, his son Kenneth Peavey (Tami) Palm Springs, Ca, daughter Jeannie Phelps (Ted) Escondido Ca, step-son Steve Egger (Carmela) San Diego, Ca, step-son Danny Egger (Vicki) San Diego, Ca, step-daughter Debbie Morris (John-deceased) Spring Valley, Ca, step-daughter Donna Talbott (Ed) Chewelah, Wa, step-daughter Kathy Hoxie (Hal) McPherson, Kansas, step-daughter Cindy Mühlemann (Sam) Bonigen, Switzerland, step-daughter Diane O’Riley (Brian) Spokane, Wa, 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
A celebration of Gilbert’s life will be held in the spring when family can gather.
