Edward Johnson 1928-2016
Edward H. Johnson of Colville passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2016 at the age of 88. Ed was born and raised in Hamilton, WA on July 16, 1928 to Harry and Elizabeth (Byers) Johnson.
From 1950-1952, Ed served in the Army and was stationed in Korea. Following his service he found work as a logger. He also enjoyed his life long love of riding his Harley. It wasn’t long before he met his future wife, Maxine. After going to some dances and rides on that Harley, Ed convinced her to marry him. They were married on June 11, 1955 in Conway, WA and began their family. They were blessed with 61 wonderful years together.
Ed joined Maxine’s family in the grocery business and was successful for many years. In 1997 they retired to Colville to pursue his retirement hobby of farming and ranching. Ed loved watching the wildlife, having cows in the field, hay in the barn and good, straight, tight fences. The day never started or ended too early for Ed. If your phone was ringing before first light it was him. Whether on a bike, in the car or in his motor home the open road also appealed to Ed, he loved taking trips.
Ed will be remembered for his hard work, being a strict task master and his sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father and friend. He cared deeply for others and was a generous man.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Maxine; his children Diane (Gary) Groves; Duane (Janet) Johnson both of Colville and Dan Johnson of Liberty Lake. Eight grandchildren; Maxine McLeod, Marianne Decker, Theodore Groves, Martha Fairley, Hope Vivanco, Tisha Johnson, Mitchell Johnson and Tyler Johnson. Three great-grandchildren, Landon McLeod, Adelle Decker and Axel Decker. Two sisters, Jeanette Burnett and Dorothy Filbert, both of Bellingham, WA. Two very special, furry friends, Mickey and Freddy and two other very special friends, Gene and Artie Myers.
