Edna Velma Norris, a long time resident of Springdale, Washington, passed away at her home on October 31, 2016 at the age of 85. Edna was born in Ford, WA on September 27, 1931, the daughter of Wayne and Leona (Stone) Baker.
Edna was raised and attended school in the Springdale area and graduated from Mary Walker High School in Springdale, WA in 1949. Soon after graduation she moved to San Francisco, CA where she became a Certified Dental Assistant. Upon returning home she obtained a job as a Dental Assistant in Chewelah with Dr. Christopherson. On September 22, 1951 she married Floyd Norris in Springdale. For several years they traveled together as Floyd worked at various commercial work sites in the Northwest before purchasing a farm in Springdale. Floyd continued his construction career for several more years and Edna took care of things on the farm, including caring for their three children. As the children grew older, Edna spent a period of time working for the Springdale Post Office as a rural mail carrier. She also did bulk newspaper transportation for a local newspaper. Floyd passed away in 2013 and Edna continued living on the farm.
Throughout the years, Floyd and Edna raised sheep, Border Collie and Great Pyrenees dogs. One of her hobbies was spinning wool into yarn which she then used for knitting. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren still wear hats, gloves and other clothing that she knitted. She also took part in supporting all of the family activities, whether it was helping Floyd with 4H or attending the kid’s sporting events. For years Edna was an active member of the TOPS Club.
Edna was very capable of completing any challenge or task that presented itself. When faced with something less then desirable, she didn’t back down or pass it on to someone else. She had a positive attitude that gave her the ability take care of the needs at hand and continue on with life. She had many family and friends that she loved deeply and that same love was returned to her. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; parents; brothers, Orville Baker, Eldon Baker, Melvin Baker, Kyle Baker, Gordon Baker.
