The Lions of Hunter knew they had a tough game for their season-opener – facing defending 1B state champion Almire/Coulee-Hartline. They came prepared, however, and not afraid to rough things up on defense with ACH but in the end couldn’t get their offense going in a 48-0 defeat.
Columbia was held to 40 yards offense in the game. ACH jumped out to a 36-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks largely to their impressive air attack. ACH quarterback Maguire Isaak went 5-of-6 for 127 yards and four touchdowns in the game. Charles Hunt ran six times for 50 yards and caught three passes for 81 yards.
The Lions stopped their foe on their first series of the game and held ACH to just six points in the second half. Columbia (0-1) will play at Entait next week.
Wellpinit opens season opener
Wellpinit had their first game of the game cancelled because of a large forest fire threatening their town. They made up for time, however, notching a 58-20 victory over St. John Endicott on the road last Friday in nonleague 1B eight-man football action.
Wellpinit led 46-12 at halftime and added 12 more points in the third quarter.
Clayton Flett led Wellpinit with 170 yards rushing and three touchdowns along with three catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. Philip Garcia added nine carries for 58 yards and a score.
Special teams were important for Wellpinit as Devin Brisbois returned two kickoffs for touchdowns from 75 and 55 yards out. Shaylon Tonasket also returned an interception 50 yards for a score.
Wellpinit (1-0) will host Northport this Friday at 3 p.m.
NWC breaks away from Springdale
Northwest Christian started slow, but used a 21-point second quarter to help ice a 42-6 Northeast 2B victory over Springdale Friday in Chattaroy.
An eight-yard touchdown pass put NWC up 7-0 in the first quarter, but Sprindale answered back by Cates recovering a fumble and running it 28 yards for the touchdown to pull the Mary Walker Chargers to within 7-6.
That was as close as it would get, however. NWC led 28-6 at halftime thanks for a 36-yard touchdown run, a 42-yard fumble recovered for a touchdown and a 21-yard scoring run.
Northwest Christian would score two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter to ensure the victory. Silas Perreiah ran 207 yards for the Chattaroy squad.
Springdale gained 13 yards of total offense.
The Chargers (0-2) will play at winless Kettle Falls this Friday at 7 p.m.
Inchelium falls to Touchet
