It is cross-country season again and the Chewelah team is off and running. 27 runners have turned out despite the changes going on around them. Long time coach Mr. Kostecka has taken a job at Mount Spokane; he will be missed but the team sends best wishes to him and his family.
The new coach to the team is Mr. Kernan, JHS Vocational teacher and long-time coach of volleyball. Being new to the sport, but an athletic person, he fit right in with the group.
The cross-country team went to Shadle Park this past Saturday and did quite well.
The team is very strong this year and even the freshmen boys are fighting for a varsity position on the team. This week community member Larry Kristianson has offered his property and his expertise to our runners. Next Saturday, September 22 you can see our cross-country team at Plantes Ferry Park, known as one of the more challenging courses for our runners. Wish them luck and Go Cougars!
