Fire crews are battling a blaze five miles south of Northport after it sparked up Thursday afternoon at an active logging operation near Bodie Mountain Road. Estimated at 20 acres, the fire is burning through timber and logging slash.
Stevens County Fire Districts, Washington DNR and the US Forest Service are all responding to the fire – with crews totaling 120 people – and will work to put it out Friday. Approximately 20 structures are threatened by no evacuation orders have been issued.
Thursday night, retardant and water was dropped on the blaze by tankers and helicopters.
