There is a distinct discrepancy between the top and bottom teams in this year’s Northeast A League baseball pennant race, as the Chewelah Cougars discovered last week. On Tuesday, they demolished cellar dweller Newport by a 19-1 score. They were then decimated 10-2 by league leader Freeman on Thursday.
With only one game remaining on their league schedule, the Cougars (5-8) are preparing for the upcoming district tournament. They will most likely face Lakeside (9-4) in the opening loser out round. At the same time, Colville (6-6) will meet Deer Park (6-7). The winners of these two games will advance to play Medical Lake (10-3) and Freeman (12-1).
