Carl Oman was the first Chewelah runner to cross the finish line at last Saturday’s Can-Am Invitational cross-country meet along the Columbia River near the Old Kettle Falls picnic area. Oman placed 15th overall with a time of 18 minutes, 25 seconds.
Ethan Rowe was the second Cougar to finish the 5,000-meter course, coming in 29th in 19 minutes, 4 seconds. Lukas Kubik finished 36th (19:41), Riemes Schatz was 38th (19:44), Wyatt Smith was 49th (20:26), Wyatt Collins came in 69th (22:06), and Andrew Minaker was 75th (23:54).
As a team, the Cougars placed seventh.
Leandra Haden was Chewelah’s lone girl on the course. She crossed the finish line in 22 minutes, 5 seconds to place among the top ten. She came in ninth out of the 49 runners competing. The girl’s race was won by Colville’s Morgan Hall, who posted a time of 20:24. Colville has three of the top six runners.
For Springdale boys cross country, Garret Willey finished eighth in the race with a time of 17:41 and teammate Kylor Rose was 23rd with a time of 18:40. Randy Dixon wasn’t far behind, posting a time of 18:58 and placing 26th.
Mary Walker placed fourth as a team, while 3A Rogers from Spokane won the meet. Garrett Williams of Tonasket won the race with a time of 17:16.
