An escaped inmate in the Deer Park Area was recovered by authorities at approximately 8:40 a.m. He was found after authorities were directed to an area of the 900 block of South Colville Road after reports of a male acting suspicious and the caller believing the male was escaped inmate, Juan Cruz-Grijalva. The inmate quickly realized he was caught and followed commands. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Deer Park High School had been put on lockdown as Spokane County Deputies and Air Search were looking for the escaped Department of Corrections inmate worker.
The inmate is 24-year-old Juan A. Cruz-Grijalva, a kitchen worker at the fire training academy based at Deer Park High School. Before his recovery, he was last seen behind Deer Park High School at around 2 a.m. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the inmate’s escape at 2:30 a.m. on Monday. Cruz-Grijalva is an inmate of the Olympic Corrections Center in Forks, Wash.
Cruz-Grijalva is serving time for robbery – 1 degree. He now faces new charges of Escape 1st Degree. He was transferred to the Airway Heights Corrections Recovery Team.
