This letter is in response to the letter submitted by Sylvia Brock regarding Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ article about the true cost of Medicare under President Barack Obama.
Unfortunately, the Congresswoman is correct, and unfortunately, Sylvia Brock is incorrect. The Health Care Act will cost all of us quite a bit of money in the future. Most doctors nationwide, have decided not to take any more Medicaid patients because the doctors don’t get paid fair value for their services and the paperwork is too voluminous. This means patients will have to go to Emergency Rooms for medical services if they don’t already have a doctor willing to treat them below cost.
Starting in 2014, people under the required age for Medicaid will be eligible for coverage if they are below a certain income level. This is why so many states have opted out of the Medicaid part of the Health Care Act Program because the states cannot afford to subsidize Medicaid.
I would like to say the Congresswoman has first hand information about the true cost of Medicaid since she is involved in day to day negotiations in Washington D.C. and she is involved in current conferences and discussions with both Republicans and Democrats in the United States House of Representatives.
It is my guess that Sylvia Brock has her own private medical insurance and doesn’t know the inconvenience and uncertainty experienced by those who only have Medicaid for health coverage. For those eligible for Medicaid, I only hope they can find a doctor who will take them and if they have one now, I hope they are not dropped by their current physician.
