Although Chewelah may be entrenched in the “good ol’ boys club,” I still have hope that decisions can be made in the best interest of our community.
In the interest of transparency and community deference, I recommend a wage reduction for the mayor and the city administrator. The money saved could be applied toward the desperately needed upgrades to the water department computers and / or the replacement of the grader for road maintenance. As citizens, we are paying at least 15% more for our utilities, and the Public Works Director has absorbed a salary reduction of almost 40%.
Now can the mayor and the city administrator do what’s right for Chewelah? Or are wage decisions for city employees based solely on discrimination?
