Headline: 9/6/12 The State Auditor finds City of Chewelah in violation, general fund to reduce by $250,000?
Who is responsible? The Mayor? The City Council? The Treasurer? The City Administrator? Whoever is responsible should be fired or voted out of office.
9/13/12 The City of Chewelah will cut all library funding.
I cannot even imagine that a city would not have a library. How are we going to attract more families to our city? If we keep cutting services, people will leave and then the businesses will close. The Chamber of Commerce has worked so hard these past couple of years to attract new businesses. It would be a shame to waste their efforts.
Poor families and seniors and disabled cannot afford to buy a book or a computer. We owe it to the children to help them with their studies and learn to operate a computer for their future to be able to get a job. Young minds need assistance. Every time I am there the computers are busy and people are searching for books. My husband and I each read a book a week. I am against closing the library, emphatically.
The City could start by putting every employee on a 12 hour per month furlough like Stevens County did. That would save over $50,000.00 a year. I bet every employee over there will still get a raise in 2013.
