Spokane Tribe gives back to impacted agencies: On Dec. 12, the Spokane Tribe of Indians gave $7,500 to the Chewelah Police Department and $1,500 to the Chewelah Fire Department. The money comes from gaming revenue allocated by the Spokane Tribe to their Impact Mitigation Fund (IMF) that is set aside and awarded to organizations whose services are directly impacted by Spokane Tribal gaming operations. The fire department will use the money to purchase a thermal imaging camera to improve their firefighting effectiveness while the police department will use their portion to purchase two electronic speed reader boards the will help persuade drivers to slow down when entering the city.
