The City of Chewelah has announced an upcoming vacancy on their City Council due to the resignation of one its members. The City Council consists of seven members with various terms. They meet twice a month on the first and third Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. The City of Chewelah is a Second Class municipality with a Mayor- Council form of government. The City Council has the authority to formulate and adopt city policies while the mayor assumes the responsibility of enforcing them.
The vacancy is for position City Council at Large. The term for this position expires December of 2013. City Council members are required to be residents within the incorporated limits of the City of Chewelah. City Council requirements also include attendance at the monthly Council meetings and attendance at any committee meetings for which they have been appointed to by the mayor. Council members are encouraged to attend various training and conference opportunities that occur throughout the year.
The City Council is asking that any one interested in filling the vacant position send a letter of interest along with a brief biography to Mayor Bauman, PO Box 258, Chewelah, WA 99109. The City Council will choose a person to fill the vacancy at the second City Council meeting of September, scheduled for Sept. 19, 2012.
