The Greater Springdale Loon Lake Chamber of Commerce met September 7 at the Springdale fire station.
Our guest speaker was District one fire Chief Mike Bucy. He presented details about the new fire stations at Loon Lake and Suncrest. Both have begun ground work. He showed us a map of the district, which covers 375 square miles and how call volume has directed the location of the new stations.
Springdale is the only town in the district. The other communities are all unincorporated. The district totals 13,500 residents with about 22,000 population increase in the summer. So looking at the call volume map we saw Suncrest is the busiest, Loon Lake-Clayton corridor is second. Chief Bucy has spent countless hours in the last six years working on this project, along with the Commissioners, the public and since 2010 a specialized architect. He has done his utmost to ensure these stations are designed for the future, so they will never need to be remodeled and will last 50-75 years.
