Denise Martin, 2012 graduate of Jenkins HS, just completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management at University of Nebraska. She attended the university on an athletic scholarship for rifle. Commencement was May 7, 2016.
During her career at UNL, she was a four-year letter winner, three-time All-American and three-time all-conference teams. The team qualified for the NCAA Championship match all four years she attended.
Denise earned individual honors at the NCAA championships her second year finishing fifth and her third year finishing third in smallbore rifle competing against some of the best marksmen in the world.
Denise made the Athlete Scholar honor roll all but her first semester and graduated with a 3.295 cumulative GPA. She was recognized with the Tom Osborn citizenship award for her volunteer work every year. She was also named the MVP, this year on the rifle team.
Denise has been nominated for the NCAA post-graduate scholarship for $7,500, and also for the Big Ten post-graduate scholarship award, also $7,500. She is still waiting to see if she is awarded one or both of those to go towards her Master’s degree.
In addition to finding employment, and getting her MBA, Denise also plans on trying to make the 2020 Olympic rifle team.
