It has been the desire of the persons on the board of directors now and in the past to replace the floor in the senior center. It was so badly worn that it was past being repaired.
Time went by until about a year and a half ago when some women took an interest in working on making money to renovate the center.
In the Spring of 2015, the women went to work getting donations of items from the community. They held several rummage sales inside the senior center. It was a hit. They also added events with vendors inside the center and, along with some other donations, were able to come up with $10,000.
The secretary of the board wrote some grants. Some more people threw in some money and we had enough to do a total renovation—not just the floor. This includes the ceiling, walls, floor and counter.
We are working hard now to get the new window coverings put up as well as ten historical pictures of Chewelah.
There will be celebration at the Senior Center on October 22, 2016 from 1-3 p.m.
People will be recognized for their part in the renovation. Our guest speakers are Dorothy Knauss (Mayor of Chewelah) and Geno Ludwig. They will be sharing the history of Chewelah; the Mayor’s mother put on potlucks in the original building.
We, the board of directors, would love the community as well as nearby towns to come and celebrate with us. There will be a time to view the pictures and enjoy some refreshments.
