Win would be key for Cougars in final part of NEA League schedule

Newport 41, Lakeside 7!!! This shocking score from last Friday night’s Northeast A League football action sent tremors over Flowery Trail Road from Grizzlyland to the practice field behind Jenkins High School. The implication being that if Newport can convincingly and unexpectedly upset Lakeside by a 34-point spread, the Chewelah Cougars had better be well-prepared when the get off the bus this Friday evening at Medical Lake.
Yes, Medical Lake comes into the game winless with a 0-5 league record, but the Cougars do not want to walk into an ambush like Lakeside did when they walked onto the Newport turf last Friday.
Taking advantage of its bye week, Chewelah had an extra five days of workouts to prepare for the Cardinals.
The Cougars did not use this time to add to their playbook. They used it to improve the execution of plays already on Coach Levi Hogan’s play card. Their focus was getting better at the plays they already know on both sides of the ball. Medical Lake was manhandled by Deer Park 42-0 on Friday. The Stags remained undefeated. The Cardinals remained winless and scoreless in league play. Hopefully, that does not instill a sense of overconfidence into our Cougars, who really need a win this week. Instead, this should be their opportunity to vent frustration over previous losses. Kickoff time at Medical Lake is 7 p.m..
