Chewelah mayor Dorothy Knauss declares “Chewelah Cougar Week” after several teams heading to state tournaments
(STAFF REPORTS/Chewelah Independent)
Chewelah needs to break out the navy, light blue and white this week in support of their Cougars…
With Chewelah golf, softball and track and field teams heading to state tournaments this week or weekend, Chewelah Mayor Dorothy Knauss has declared this week “Chewelah Cougar Week.”
It has been a very successful spring sports season for the Chewelah Cougars. The Chewelah Golf team will have several girl golfers competing at the state tournament tomorrow in Tumwater. The Chewelah softball team clinched the No. 2 seed out of the District 7 2B Softball Tournament on Saturday. They’ll be heading to Yakima this weekend for the state tournament featuring squads from all over the state. Chewelah had to defeat the No. 3 team in the state to clinch a state playoff berth. The Chewelah Track and Field team qualified 15 athletes from the state track meet in Cheney this weekend.
The Chewelah Independent would ask people to wear their Cougar gear this week, much like how Seahawks fans would wear Seahawks gear on Blue Fridays. Several teams will be bussing out of town this week so give them a honk. And if you find yourself at one of the various state tournaments, remind people how to pronounce Chewelah. It could get a little hairy since many of the 2B schools have never seen Chewelah before.
WHEREAS, our community enjoys many and varied opportunities for area youth to participate in various sports, and
WHEREAS, the Chewelah Golf team has earned the right to compete at State this week, and
WHEREAS, the Chewelah Softball team has earned the right to compete at State this week, and
WHEREAS, the Chewelah Track team has earned the right to compete at State this week
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DOROTHY L. KNAUSS, MAYOR , do hereby proclaim the week of May 20-27 “CHEWELAH COUGAR WEEK’.
