Chewelah head boys basketball coach Jason Norman stepped down last week from his position with the Cougars for a career opportunity and to spend more time with his children, according to Athletic Director Pat Gaffney.
“We’d like to thank Jason for what he did for the program and the time he spent with our kids,” Gaffney said. “He was very positive with our kids and a good role model.”
Norman took over as the Cougars head coach in 2013 after the retirement of Rocky Verbeck. Norman served as an assistant basketball coach under Verbeck and an assistant football coach for retired football coach Jim Fisk.
Norman posted a 11-51 record as head coach of the Cougars. Last year the team finished 4-10 in the NEA League and 5-16 overall.
Gaffney said that the school would like to have a new head coach hired by the end of the school year. Having just hired Levi Hogan as the new football coach, the school will now go through a similar hiring process for a new basketball coach.
JJSHS is currently taking applications for the opening. The job posting is online at www.chewelah.k12.wa.us
