Baldwin hits one of the best last-second shots the Cougars have seen in a while…
“It’s going to overtime,” Chewelah sports broadcaster Rhonda Christian said as Chewelah found itself tied 68-68 with 1A foe Riverside in a nonleague boys basketball contest on Tuesday night.
Jaron Baldwin had other ideas.
The Chewelah senior got a screen from Andrew Sweat that sprung him for an open shot from behind the three point arc that sunk through the net as time expired. That gave the Cougars the 71-68 victory, their second win of the season and the second triumph over a 1A school.
“Nick Franks brought the ball up the court with about 10 seconds left and I saw he was getting tons of ball pressure so I ran around him and got the handoff using him as a screen,” Baldwin said. “I came around the corner and Andrew Sweat was in perfect position on the right wing and made a great heads up play to set a screen which free’d me up for an open look. Then it was just a matter of knocking the shot down.” More
