Windermere Real Estate has a familiar face with a familiar name.
Evan Schalock, 2004 graduate of Jenkins High School and son of Steve Schalock, has been back for four months as a Real Estate Agent and also will be a Registered Representative for HD Vest Financial Services. He moved back after spending nine years working in the banking industry as a market manager/salesman and spent time in Spokane, Portland and Denver.
“I really wanted to move back to Chewelah,” Schalock said. “It’s the place I grew up and I think I always knew I wanted to go back.”
Schalock is married to wife Amanda — who is a Client Services Manager at Banner Bank — and they have two kids Jackson and Blake. He added that having kids makes Chewelah more attractive to live since he knows first hand what a good experience growing up in this town is like.
The big change from a city like Denver to Chewelah is a good one, Schalock added, saying that the few amenities that you give up, you make up in the setting and the people in town. He said the big reason to make the move was to be closer to family and also community members he’s known for years.
“I missed people,” Schalock said. “You don’t really understand it when you’re a kid I think because you don’t pay attention to the innerworkings of a small town. But I really missed the people and seeing people you know everyday.”
Schalock graduated from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor’s in finance and economics and then went to Gonzaga for his MBA in marketing.
He returns to a business that he saw his dad start and operate for years growing up. Along with helping people find and purchase property around Stevens County, he will also be doing investment consulting as well. A lot of his work will be appointment based, he added, saying he’d rather be productive and out in the field as opposed to in the office.
“Chewelah still has its charm from what I remember 10 years ago and this area has a ton of potential,” Schalock said.
