It’s that time of the week again where I try and make terrible predictions of local prep football games. I lost to a cow last week – A COW. So take these predictions with a grain of salt. Here’s a look at this Friday’s games.
Chewelah 21, Deer Park 14
The Cougars held their own against the Stags in the jamboree earlier this year making me think this should be a close affair. Now the Stags do have Tyson Lim, who gobbles up yardage like Bo Jackson. He ran for over 400 yards against Colville and I’m pretty sure his internet profile photo is this…
Soooooooo… the Cougars are going to have to figure out a thing or two. We’re hoping we can rub a Coug victory into the face of Guest Picker and Deer Park Chamber of Commerce honcho Ryan Moore.
BTW, don’t be worried they haven’t built the roundabouts in Deer Park yet. So it’s still safe to drive there for the game.
Newport 22, Colville 20
Oh look, I’m the only one that picked Newport. This bodes well. But wait! Let me explain. After seeing their QB and RB in action and seeing Colville not get off to a world-breaking start – I’ll throw my hat in with the Grizzlies. In fact, I’m all in on the Pond’Oreille county boys. They could do some real damage in the NEA League. Except against Freeman. Nobody is beating Freeman.
Freeman 99, Lakeside 0
Sorry Lakeside, nobody is beating Freeman.
Riverside 2, Medical Lake 0
Oh boy, this game should be interesting as both squads are looking for their first win. Heck, Medical Lake is looking for its first NEA League touchdown of the season.
Odessa-Harrington 65, Wellpinit 64
Hopefully Wellpinit can bounce back from their loss to Inchelium last week. Naturally an undefeated team comes in town to ease things up. Health could also be a concern for Wellpinit but if they can keep everybody on the field, they’re a dangerous squad.
Reardan 21, Kettle Falls 20
It’s homecoming for Kettle Falls so I was a real jerk and picked against them. The Bulldogs have been steadily getting better as the season goes on. Judging by Facebook comments, which are totally reliable: It sounds like their hyped for their homecoming game as opposed to being totally distracted by the events surrounding it. I wish I could tell you something about Reardan, but alas, I don’t go to that town often. Shocker, I know.
Asotin 35, Springdale 34
Springdale is still looking for the first win of the season and it doesn’t get any easier with Asotin. It’s got to be said, however, Asotin had to drive all the way from the Lewiston area to get to Springdale. That has go to be one of their weirdest commutes in sports: Palouse, Spokane, Stevens County. They’ll feel like they’re in another state or something.
Side note: I looked up the county jail that resides in Asotin. It has two garage doors and is the size of a McDonalds. Ahhh Asotin.
Inchelium 65, Cusick 34
This is probably the biggest game of the week. Inchelium and Cusick are good rivals with the winner probably getting the inside back to regional 1B football dominance. After watching Inchelium against Wellpinit, I’m really impressed with this squad. IB usually means you have a handful of kids that are true athletes then its a shell game with the rest of the team. Inchelium, on the other hand, has a fast and smart QB that can throw the ball, they have several tall and lanky WRs, they have a running back that chugs ahead like a freight train and several other guys that hit HARD on defense. So I’m all in on the Hornets, they’re a pretty good squad.
Hunters 65, Selkirk 24
Hunters has scored something like 150 points in the past two games. THEY’VE FIGURED OUT THEIR OFFENSE. Let’s hope the boys of Columbia High School can keep its going because this has lead to some interesting box scores.
EWU 65, UC Davis 45
Oh EWU isn’t playing a top ten college football program anymore? Win.
WSU 45, Oregon 24
I saw this on the schedule and cringed. Nothing worse than trying to get info on your local team playing and having to slog through Oregon Duck tweets. Their fans… are not smart. No really. Even old Duck fans are like “I can’t believe these guys.” You know Duck fans that supported the program before Joey Harrington? BTW I miss the Joey Harrington-era Ducks. They were a fun squad with cool uniforms. Now the program steals FCS QBs and changes their unis every week. What a joke.
Stanford 35, UW 7
Do you know what the geniuses did when scheduling this game? Two top teams in the Pac-12 and the put the game on Friday night. You know what this means? Anybody parent aged interested in football is at their kids football game. Seattle media is wondering why the game isn’t sold out. BECAUSE YOU PUT IT ON FRIDAY.
