BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Springdale topples Northport for season opening win, Kettle Falls topples Selkirk
(COLIN HAFFNER/Chewelah Independent)
Springdale took advantage of the home court Wednesday night when they tipped off with Northport in the season opener for both teams. Lead by Avery Kitt, who had 16 points on the night, the Chargers broke things open in the second quarter en route to a 61-18 victory over the visiting Mustangs.
Kitt added five assists in a game that had just a three point separation after the first quarter before the Chargers (1-0) went on a 17-4 run to get to the half ahead 29-13. That lead widened in the third, and Northport (0-1) just couldn’t match the Springdale offense in the end.
Ezric Green added another 15 points for the Chargers, and Devin Glenn had 12 to pace the team.
Tanner Malcolm had a team high five points for Northport, who will next take on Inchelium in a home game Dec. 7 at 4 p.m.
Springdale next hosts Wilbur-Creston Dec. 10 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Big third propels Kettle Falls to win
Kettle Falls used a dominant third quarter to break the game open and held on in the final quarter to get past visiting Selkirk 48-34.
The Bulldogs (1-0) traded quarters with the Rangers (0-1) in the first half and held a 27-18 lead at the end of two, but a 13-1 run in the second half boosted that lead out of reach for the Rangers giving Kettle Falls the victory.
Cade McKern topped all scorers and lead the Bulldogs with 17 points, and teammate Matthew Thompson pitched in 11. Selkirk was lead by Ryan Zimmerman’s 11.
The Bulldogs will next travel to Valley Christian for a Dec. 10 matchup tipping off at 7:30 p.m., while Selkirk will head to Republic for a Dec. 7 game at 6 p.m.
