Krausz’s 16 points not enough in playoff loss…
Despite a strong showing, the Chewelah boys basketball team was knocked out of the NEA League district basketball tournament last night with a 59-52 loss to Medical Lake. The Cougars led 31-28 at halftime but relinquished that advantage in the third quarter.
Chewelah was led by senior Elan Krausz’s 16 points, who wrapped up his career with the Cougars as did Owen Baldwin, Gavin Parrott, Ben Richmond and Griffin Stroyan.
Medical Lake outscored Chewelah 15-9 in the third quarter to take the 43-40 lead in the final stanza. The Cardinals would add four points to their advantage in the fourth.
Chewelah freshman Dawson Youngblood scored 14 points while Stroyan added nine points and Parrott notched seven points.
Medical Lake was led by Derek Steege’s 25 points. Medical Lake moved on to play No. 1 seed Freeman in the district semifinals on Friday.
Chewelah finished the season 10-11 overall.
