I would like to thank the Chewelah Arts Guild for their support of local food in Stevens County. During Sunday’s wonderful concert in the park, the Arts Guild sold locally-made brats from meat grown by Rocky Ridge Ranch in Reardan and processed by Smokey Ridge Meats in Chewelah; buns and white chocolate angel food cake from Heather’s Fairy Tale Bakery in Colville; locally-grown strawberries from the Front Porch Farm in Arden as well as bottles of Lodi Spring water, bottled right here in Chewelah. They certainly could have opted for cheaper product, but chose a more risky route for a fundraiser and went local all the way. What a great concept! And I know from doling out many strawberry shortcakes on Sunday that the feedback was very positive (those shortcakes were to die for…just sayin’).
It’s out-of-the-box thinking like that of the Chewelah Arts Guild that may help educate the public about the joys of locally produced food. Not only does about .89 of every dollar spent on local food stay local, but the funds that the Arts Guild raised will be used locally…that’s like locally squared to the power of 3, or something like that.
Thank you all!
