The Chewelah Angels concluded their Little League Baseball season on Sunday with a third place finish at the Colville Rendezvous Tournament, winning four of their five games.
Back to back singles by Conner Krouse and Zakary Kubik in the sixth inning scored Griffin Stroyan and Jensen Holloway as the Angels came from behind to edge Kalispell 8-7 to claim their third place trophy.
A bases-loaded single by Stroyan in the second inning gave the Angels their first fun of the game, bringing home Brent Fiola. Later in the inning, with the bases still juiced, Krouse was walked to push home Holloway.
Singles by Elan Krausz, Eli Hubert, Zarren Nielson, Brice Frederick, and Fiola produced three more runs in the third inning. Then, singles by Hubert and Parrott in the fifth inning added one more Chewelah run.
It took the two-run rally in the final inning to overcome Kalispell’s lead for the win.
Chewelah 12, PO 1
The Angels opened the tournament on Saturday with a four-inning victory over Pend Oreille Valley, winning 12-1 by the 10-run rule.
Frederick’s three-run homer in the first inning was the big blast of the game, scoring Krausz and Parrott. Krausz has doubled earlier in the inning to bring home Kubik. Later in the inning, Stroyan got on base on a Kalispell error and scored on a passed ball, to give Chewelah a 5-0 lead.
Five more Angel runs came home in the second inning. Owen Baldwin got on base on an error and scored on a passed ball. Fiola was walked and was batted in by Krausz. Then, Parrott homered with Krausz and Holloway on base. Their runs gave Chewelah a 10-0 lead going into the bottom of the second inning.
In the third inning, the Angels scored two more runs to achieve a 12-1 split on the scoreboard. Singles by Ben Richmond, Hubert, and Baldwin provided the power at the plate.
When Kalispell did not score in the top of the fourth inning, the Angels were declared the winners of the game. They had scored 12 runs in only three at-bats.
Chewelah 7, Spokane 5
On that same day, Chewelah beat the Spokane Stars 7-5 for their second win of the tournament.
Singles by Krausz and Parrott in the opening inning gave the Angels a 2-0 lead, but the Stars came right back with two runs of their own to tie the score at 2-apiece.
Hubert’s double, followed by Kubik’s singled brought home two more Chewelah runs in the second inning, giving the Angels a 4-2 lead.
Krausz and Holloway singled to open the third inning. Parrott’s double scored both of them. Stroyan then batted in Parrott for a 7-2 Chewelah lead.
Spokane scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning and another run in the sixth, but Chewelah held on for the 7-5 win.
BF 6, Chewelah 1
After a 6-1 loss to Bonners Ferry, the Angels met Kalispell in the battle for third and fourth places, with Chewelah taking home the 8-7 win. Parrott’s double, along with singles by Stroyan and Neilson, were the only three hits against a bolstered Bonners Ferry team.
The win over Kalispell also marked the end of the season for the Angels.
