Alice Carrie Cooper 1919-2019
Alice Carrie Cooper, was born the 9th of eleven children to German immigrants Fred and Clara (Durr) Engelhardt in Cedonia, WA on April 13, 1919. She passed away on April 9, 2019 in Loon Lake, WA, only four days shy of her 100 birthday.
Alice was raised in the Cedonia community where she excelled in school and completed the eighth grade by age 11. She turned her attentions to the needs of her large family and assisted on the family farm. On April 18, 1936, she married Frank A. “Bus” Cooper. Alice continued assisting on the family farms and helping to keep her large family fed and cared for. She and Frank began their own family and raised two children, Alvin and Ina Lea on the farm. Alice was always watching over the needs of those around her and took her role as caregiver very seriously. Within that role she found purpose and a place in life she enjoyed. With a watchful eye and small stature she maintained order with a large and inarguable nature. They eventually sold the farm and moved to the Addy area. On Dec. 29, 1992, Frank passed away at the age of 80. Alice continued caring for her brother, Henry until his passing in 1999 and then, with a long breath, she expressed that she was by herself for the first time in her life. Alice lived independently, with the help and countless miles driven by her family to support her wish to stay at her home. Only a few years ago, when her health required she receive a more constant level of care, she relocated to Loon Lake where a wonderful caregiver, Pat Brown, diligently watched over her until her passing.
Alice had a green thumb and her home was always filled with greenery. She also raised beautiful flower gardens and prided herself growing orchids from flowers of the previous year. She spent many hours with needle and thread in hand and taught herself to paint with oils. Alice was always sharp with numbers and spent every day with a purpose.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Duane Cooper, great granddaughter, Allyssa Arnold; seven brothers and 3 sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Ina Lea Allgaier (Les) of Kennewick, WA; a son, Alvin Cooper (Ellen) of Deer Lake, WA and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
