Rangers continue offensive fireworks…
Selkirk collected 550 yards of total offense and downed Republic 54-0 in NE 1B eight-man football action on Friday. Quarterback Jay Link threw for 292 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 31 more yards and another score.
Selkirk led 14-0 after one quarter and then 36-0 at halftime before cruising in the second half. The offense was nearly balanced completely as the Rangers notched 258 yards on the ground.
Aiden Penney led the way with 129 rushing yards and two touchdowns while averaging a whopping 25.8 yards per carry.
Selkirk had standout receivers post dual 100+ yard games. Zech Curran caught three balls for 106 yards, while Steven Davis notched four catches for 163 yards. Both had two touchdown receptions apiece.
Selkirk also scored on a safety and a Steven Powers fumble returned 77 yards for a touchdown.
The Rangers improved to 3-1 on the year overall. In 2018, they had barely beaten Republic 32-38. The latest Max Prep rankings have the Ione boys ranked No. 10 in the state and they have outscored opponents 230-60 so far this year.
Selkirk has a bye this week but will host Hunters on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Republic dropped to 1-3 on the year.
