Inchelium brought balance and strength into their Northeast 1B matchup against undefeated Wellpinit. They came out with the 62-12 victory while passing for 192 yards and throwing four touchdown passes to improve to 3-1 on the season.
On the ground, Waylon Lelone rushed for two touchdowns and 70 yards as the Hornets’ bruising running back. Meanwhile wide receiver Winston Finley caught three touchdown passes and collected 110 yards receiving.
They put the pressure on Wellpinit early, recovering an onside kick to open the game. Four minutes later, Finley ran into the endzone from a yard out to make it 8-0 Inchelium.
The Redskins fumbled on the first play of their first drive and Inchelium was able to capitalize, as Lelone rushed it in from three yards out for their second touchdown.
Inchelium lead 16-0 as each team traded possessions to round out the first quarter. Wellpinit turned the ball over on downs on their third drive of the game, but Inchelium gave it right back to them by throwing a pick to Shaylon Tonasket.
Tonasket, the team’s main quarterback, was injured on the play and left the game with a neck injury.
Thanks to the play of Clayton Flett, the Redskins were able to take advantage of the interception. Flett threw a ten-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Brown to pull within 16-6 with 6:17 left in the second quarter.
Flett would finish the game with 28 yards rushing on 11 carries along with 37 yards passing, going 5-for-9 with two interceptions.
Inchelium answered back to Flett’s score, however, and got another Finley touchdown down – this time from 10 yards out to take a commanding 24-6 lead with 2:18 to go in the half.
Wellpinit threw an interception on their next drive and Inchelium scored with 56 seconds left before halftime as Jaden Erickson threw a 31-yard pass to Finley. At halftime, Wellpinit faced a 32-6 deficit but got a relief with homecoming festivities that saw Flett being named homecoming king.
Inchelium opened up the third quarter with another touchdown drive, capped off with a 20-yard run by Lelone. Wellpinit punted on their next possession, and Lelone made them pay again with a seven-yard touchdown run that made it 48-6 with 5:56 left in the third quarter.
After another Redskin punt, Erickson would again find Finley for a 32-yard touchdown pass to put Inchelium p 54-6 as time expired in the third quarter.
With Tonasket out, Wellpinit did find a brought spot in Philip Garcia. Garcia returned the opening kickoff in the fourth quarter for an 80-yard touchdown. Getting the bulk of the carries in the fourth quarter, Garcia finished with 51 yards on the ground.
Inchelium, however, capped off their scoring as McKennon Andrews threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Finley to make it the final of 62-12.
Wellpinit finished with 77 yards on the ground, and 40 yards through the air. Inchelium’s double-headed quarterback proved tough to stop. Erickson finished 4-for-9 for 91 yards with three touchdowns and and interceptions. Andrews was 3-for-5 for 101 yards with a touchdown.
Inchelium (3-1) hosts Cusick next Friday while Wellpinit (2-1) hosts Odessa-Harrington.
