Fiddlers on the Peak fiddle and pickin’ contest was a great success; especially since it was a first for this area.
Saturday there were fiddlers and pickers from Chewelah, Colville and surrounding areas. Some from Idaho, Montana, California and even the famous Brad Bulla from Nashville, TN (for those of you who remember Brad and his family band “The Bulla’s”). What a special surprise. Brad entered the Adult pickin’ division and was met by some fierce local competitors, but the seasoned musician that he is, Brad took first place over Lee Bolton (age 18) and Seth Hubbard.
Friday nights dinner was an excellent way to kick things off. Some 50 dinner tickets were sold and what a dinner. Dan Delcupp did a great job in preparing the food and setting the tone for the rest of the evening. The dinner was followed by the entertainment division in which seven groups competed for the $200 first place cash prize. The decision must have been tough for judges Paul Sety and Cindy Serchio since second and third place tied, but Shannon McNeil and his Northwest Tee’s String Band took home the money.
Saturday started off at 8 a.m. with the Judges meeting and concluded at 8 p.m. with the awards ceremony. A total of forty-nine fiddlers and picker’s competed in eight different divisions for a chance to win their piece of the $1,970 in cash prizes.
For those of you who missed out and were unable to attend make sure and set aside some time to make it next year to the second annual Fiddlers on the Peak.
